AAACO NEWS Vol. XXVII No. 4 Adams-Millis Corporation July-August, 1969 MEET YOUR SUPERVISOR Upon his dis charge from the Army in 1951, Harry King start ed a career in the hosiery industry. His first position was that of knit ter learner with Ashburn Hosiery in Mt. Airy; soon, he was promoted to supervisor of Harry King their knitting room. In I960, he was transferred to Granite Hosiery Mill, which was owned and under the same management as Ashburn Hosiery. At Granite, he started as supervisor of the looping department. A year later, looping was discontinued and Harry was faced with training and re -train ing operators for seaming machines to close the toes of the socks. This was a major change for the hosiery plants as well as for the operators. With his patience, understanding and consideration, Harry King had the seaming department operating effi ciently and smoothly when Adams- Millis Corporation acquired Granite Hosiery Mill in September of 1963. A native of the Flat Rock section of Surry County where he lives, Harry attended White Plains School. In 1946, he married Miss Ruby Midkiff; they have a daughter, Harriet, who is a student in the sixth grade at Flat Rock School. From 1943 to 1946, Harry served on a landing craft in the North Atlantic while on duty with the U. S. Navy. He joined the Army Reserves when he was released from active duty with the Navy. He was called to active duty during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. Harry holds the post of junior warden in the Masonic Lodge; he is a member of the V.F.W. and is a Cub Scoutmaster. The Kings are members of, and attend, Flat Rock Baptist Church. When asked what he does with his spare time besides fish, Harry said fishing consumes all of his leisure time. He fishes for bass and catfish; and, if you don't believe some of his fish tales, he has the pictures to prove he has caught a 47-pound catfish, and recently he came in with five which weighed a total of 87 pounds. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF SERVICE Ruby Shields completed twenty- five years of con tinuous service with the company on August 17. She has been employ ed in the finish ing department of Plant 3 since August 7, 1944. Johnny Kirby, main office, also has a twenty-five- year service record with the company. H e completed his twenty-fifth year on J ul y 3 1. He is employed as office porter.
